Wear the Pants
Just an ordinary woman, striving to be that "aged" woman of Titus 2..teaching the younger women good things: so that they may be sober, love their husbands, love their children, and to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

Thank you for drawing this to our attention. I, too, like this ad. I certainly think it was brave of Levis to release an advertisement like this. However, this ad is sort of bittersweet for me. While I do find this ad uplifting, I think that it is missing one very crucial element: the Word of God.
ReplyDeleteThe sad truth is that in our culture morality is relative (what’s right for one person might not be right for another). Without the Word of God as the foundation for morality the truths that it speaks of (in this particular case the headship of man) are just opinions that many people don’t like, including a majority of self-proclaimed Christians.
Another issue to ponder (we were actually talking about this during our study time at home) is the role of the church regarding the conduct of those who are unsaved. I can tell a non-Christian friend of mine that as a man he has been given a responsibility by God to love his wife as Christ loved the church, and that his wife is to both respect him and be submissive to him but if he does not believe on the Lord Jesus how can I keep my friend accountable?
Please don’t misunderstand me. I am sure that most men, even if they are not believers, would really like what this ad is saying. However, without scripture to support truths regarding men and women’s roles, our pro-egalitarian culture will, within a short time, silence some of the ideas put forth by this advertisement and nothing will change. Without the Holy Spirit words have little effect on the hearts of men.
